Friday 5th - Sunday 7th January 2018 - Last Weekend

Well, what a holiday, so many new experiences for us and the trip of a lifetime.    Sadly, this was our last weekend, but before we headed home  - more memories to be made.

After doing a bit of "office" work and washing we went to Circular Quay and began our day with a coffee at Guylian before heading to the Botanical Gardens. Larakeets kept us amused for a while as they took wrapped sugar sticks out of the pots on the outside tables and enjoyed their spoils once they had managed to get the wrapper off. Naughty birds.
We strolled through the Botanical Gardens heading to Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, lunching at the outside cafe where Ibis were collecting food from the ground.
We sat a while and watched an outdoor  wedding ceremony. I sat next to a very elegant lady who had the elegant Audrey Hepburn look about her. We had a lovely chat and she was very down to earth without any airs or graces about her.
Vows, of a not traditional style, were exchanged: To leave water and paracetamols in reach after a night out/ something about Netflix and to leave wine glasses where they can be reached.  I jest not.

The little visitor train returned us to the entrance to the gardens and then it was on to North Sydney by train. After shopping at Coles it was on to Billy Barrys to met with Jon and Caz.

Saturday was a day to relax: watching The Ashes over lunch at The Commodore and then heading back to the communal pool, the last chance.
As this, in essence, was our last evening we had booked in at Sails for a meal.  A beautiful restaurant on the water's edge at McMahon's Point. Casual dress code is acceptable, as are the vast majority of venues in Sydney, even Ballet and the Opera House.

On Sunday the 4 of us had booked tickets for Day 4 of The Ashes. This was the day where temperatures reached 41deg, the hottest Sydney day for 74 years, and Joe Root was taken off due to dehydration.  Also on this day Alastair Cook reached his 12,000 Test Runs. Something to witness on both counts.
A memorable last few days.
