November 19th - Last day in Singapore

Coleman Bridge with Marina Bay Sands Hotel
Our last day was hot and dull in the morning, and after breakfast we packed before heading out for a walk along a stretch of the Singapore River across the road from the hotel. This particular section used to be swampy fields overrun by tidal currants. By 1850, the swamps were partially filled up. Industries such as saw mills, rice mills, engineering workshops and boat repair shops were gradually built. By the 20th century, the river sites at present day Robertson Quay and Havelock Road had become fairly well developed.
The day, turned out to be a very hot and humid one as seems to be the norm in this city. We found it too hot to walk any great distance, and after a bite to eat at lunchtime, we headed back for the respite of air conditioning at the hotel.

Over the three nights that we were at the hotel we got quite friendly with a lady who seemed to be in charge of one of the bars. So, this afternoon we settled down for a while and had quite a chat about life in Singapore for "locals". She told us that there were too many cars in Singapore and the Government are trying to find ways to cut numbers, one method is not to allow any car which is over 10 years old.
She told us many aspects of local life which was all very interesting before it was time to set off to the airport for our onward journey to Sydney.
