Friday 8th & Saturday 9th Relaxing & Sydney Opera House & Sunday & Monday Taronga Zoo & Ballet
The next few days were more relaxing before we headed off to New Zealand the following week.
Friday proved to be very hot until mid afternoon when it became a shade cooler. This particular Friday is known as Christmas Party Day, and a day to have fun with work parties and the like, before the Christmas holidays.
We ambled to the village and after a coffee at Bread Works went to the Greenwood Mall for a little shopping. Once back at the apartment I stayed in whilst Neil went for a walk. I sat on the balcony and watched the party boats in the Bay and listened as the noise got steadily louder as the revellers enjoyed themselves, especially the guys in sombreros and moustaches. Quite a sight.
After enjoying an evening meal at Blues Point, (as all the eateries were booked up), we had a long chat to a maritime lawyer, very interesting telling us about Capt. Cook and that one of his relatives had worked on the construction of one of the stanchions of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Saturday was another hot day, being 20deg at 11.00am. We walked up to the village and down to the Point where we relaxed for a while. We loved this view and simply, watching "the world go by". On the way back to the apartment we spoke to a couple who lived in a nearby apartment block. They had worked for Quantas and Singapore Airlines and he had worked in Todmorden!!!
After lunch we were off once more, this time to Sydney Opera House to see "La La Land" with a full live musical score by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. We walked around Lavender Bay to Milson's Point and then walked over the road bridge to Circular Quay and on to The Rocks. After an Italian on Circular Quay, we headed off to our first visit to the Opera House. A fabulous and memorable evening, I had conceded that I would not be able to walk over the bridge, but walking across it and the view was maybe not as thrilling, but still yet another ";pinch me" moment. One to savour.
Sunday proved once more to be hot and sunny. We headed out to Taronga Zoo which is located in the Sydney suburb of Mosman. We travelled there by ferry and the Zoo has spectacular views over the beautiful Sydney Harbour. It was opened in 1916 and the original entrance still stands today. A gondola lift runs from the bottom of the Zoo, by the ferry wharf ,and transports visitors to to the top end of the zoo, which is divided into geographical sections. New South Wales is the only territory where you are not allowed to handle Koalas, here they are housed in an enclosure and for a fee you can have a mini tour with a keeper. The other star was a baby elephant.

Monday was a day to do a few domestic chores and pack for our trip to New Zealand. After washing and packing we walked to the bottom of Blues Point Rd and watched the school children being organised for school photographs. What a backdrop! In the afternoon we caught a train from North Sydney to Central to meet up with Jon & Caz for a meal in Chinatown before heading to the Theatre to see the Australian Ballet perform Alice in Wonderland. A wonderful evening and the memories keep on coming. What a ball we were having.
