November 15th - Off we Go!

At last, after all the planning and armed with guide books and medications it was the day to set off on this big adventure.
Friends collected us and took us to Newcastle Airport for the early afternoon flight to Singapore via Dubai.  I had booked wheelchair assistance on all the flights both, outbound and inbound, and this worked extremely well and something which I was grateful for. I kept the time on my watch set to UK time so I could keep track of when my tablets were required.

The first leg to Dubai seemed to pass quickly and the cabin staff were extremely efficient and attentive to all the passengers on board. Snacks and drinks were offered frequently and I took advantage of the soft drinks and water that were on offer.  The meal was chicken in mushroom sauce followed by crumble and cheese and biscuits.
We had a short lay over in Dubai and were taken to a quiet passenger lounge that was showing football on the tv!  A member of the airport staff collected us when it was time to get ready to board the ongoing plane to Singapore.  The meal on this flight was a breakfast of scrambled egg, fruit, croissant and yogurt.

Everything went like clockwork, the flights were on time and how exciting to be spending three nights in Singapore on route. The taxi driver who took us from the airport to our hotel proved to be a good guide showing us Orchard Road, Formula 1 rack, and the new airport terminal.
On the dual carriageway which we travelled we were amazed by all the trees and the living walls.
The "greening" of Singapore is largely attributed to Lee Kuan Yew when he was Prime Minister. In the early '60's he launched the first tree planting campaign. The trees help with pollution and air quality - taxi drivers are always the font of knowledge - or so they seem.
We arrived at our hotel at 3pm 16th November local time - some 22 hours after the start of our journey.
